Children Mikoshi in Setagaya

by Michiko Okuma

While I was in Setagaya in Sep. I saw Children-Mikoshi(portable shrine).

A group of children was carrying a beautiful Mikoshi and walking around my neighborhood with the sound of drums & traditional instruments. The sound reminded me of my childhood memories.

It was a great encounter to watch such a traditional event in my neighborhood. There were several Kodomo-Mikoshi here and there on that day.

I'm sure local communities continue to make great efforts to preserve and pass down this tradition to future generations!! Thank you
