SJA Hosts Youth Cultural Exchange

On July 30, SJA hosted a youth exchange event for Japanese and American students. SJA was very happy to host this event again for the student reporter program run by Shinano Mainichi Newspaper annually. We welcomed 20 student reporters from Nagano, Japan who visited DC and NY. The event attracted students not just from Arlington, but also from Fairfax, DC, and Maryland.

The U.S. students enjoyed Japanese cultural activities such as origami, calligraphy, uchiwa (paper fan) making, and card games (bozu mekuri) taught by the Japanese students. They also enjoyed practicing speaking in Japanese to the Japanese students and had fun dancing together.

This event was reported in a local newspaper of Nagano, Japan.
