SJA Origami Team Events for AANHPI Month

The Origami Team (Yoshimi, Naoko, and Michiko) has been busy in May for AAPI (officially AANHPI, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander) Heritage month for origami demonstration, workshop, etc.

In particular, we had the opportunity to present an Origami table at the AANHPI Night Market on May 8th. The event took place on the front lawn of the Vice President's residence. It was a huge honor to meet Vice President Kamala Harris, and we were so thrilled to showcase our origami creations and share them with hundreds of guests. It was an amazing event.

Then we participated in the Asian Festival in Fairfax County on May 19th together with Miyuki, Mei, and Roberto who is a Kendama expert to demo and teach origami and Kendama.  This event was like Sakuramatsuri in April in DC, with many food and cultural vendors participating with 25000 people coming to enjoy the festival.

We also conducted several corporate workshops in Alexandria and DC.

Another event was in Annandale for the Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration on May 25th.  Albeit a much smaller crowd, Naoko and Yoshimi enjoyed showing origami folding with a local high school student volunteer to people of Annandale with diverse Asian population and some Latinos.
