SJA Board Member Updates

From Emiko Todoroki, Interim President

Dear SJA Supporters and Followers,

As SJA enters its fifth year, I wanted to take an opportunity to thank you all for your support and interest that keep SJA going. We have over 700 supporters and followers of SJA today. Your interest in Japanese language and culture, your curiosity to come out and join our activities, and your commitment to volunteer in these activities make SJA strong. We are a 100 percent volunteer organization brought together to serve our community with our interest to share Japanese language and culture and learn from each other.

Over the summer, we had changes of SJA Board members. In July we bid farewell to Jennifer Swanson (3rd President), Yoko Scandlen (Treasurer), Grace Kim (Member at Large and Education Committee Co-Chair), and Dylan Vasquez (Youth Board Member). Their commitment and dedication were second to none. We were sad to see them go. The good news is that we welcomed new Board members - Miwako Horisawa (Treasurer), Miyuki Stone (Member at Large), Sasha Jovanovski (Member at Large), Khaliun Enkbhold (Youth Board Member), and Hanna Vasquez (Youth Board Member). A heartfelt welcome to the new Board members. They brought new perspectives, ideas and positive energies to SJA. We have increased the number of Youth Board members to better support youth studying Japanese language and culture in APS.

SJA’s Executive Committee is currently comprised of myself as Interim President, Joe Recht as Interim Vice-President, John McLaughlin as Secretary, and Miwako Horisawa as Treasurer. We are here to listen to you and support your interest in the pursuit of Japanese language and culture.

If you would like to volunteer for SJA, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at info@sjastudy.org. SJA is continuing to offer regular language and culture classes for free of charge. If you like to support us, we are accepting donations through our homepage. Please visit https://www.sjastudy.org/

We hope to see you in our classes or at our events this year!

引き続きSJAのご支援とご協力を賜りますようお願い申し上げます。
